Rachel discovers that Katie was healthy , and that she found Katie's disfigured corpse in the closet. Katie's family members tell Rachel about the myth behind the cursed videotape , and also that Becca, Katie's friend, was placed in a mental institution after seeing Katie's death. Katie's boyfriend and two of her closest friendsalso died in bizarre accidents that took place that same night around 10:30 pm. Rachel travels to Shelter Mountain Inn to Cabin 12 where Katie and her friends watched the tape that had been cursed. Rachel locates the tape, and once it's done the phone is ringing. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel is able to call Noah Clay, her ex-boyfriend and a video analyst , for help. Rachel discovers later that Aidan, Noah's son, watched the tape, as Noah called her. He tells Rachel that Noah believes Rachel. Rachel goes through the tape in search of the lighthouse and finds it is situated on Moesko Island. This was the residence of Anna Morgan, an evil horse breeder cursed to be on the cursed tape. After a thorough investigation, Rachel discovers Anna had an adopted daughter named Samara who had the power to burn disturbing images in the minds of individuals, animals and objects. Rachel encounters Anna's widower Richard. Richard insists that Rachel go away as soon as she begins to ask questions about Samara.
